Compare Cards for Good Credit
For those possessing good credit, there are plenty of great credit card offers that provide great incentives, perks, and rewards, with reasonable rates. Because you’ll be approved for most credit cards for good credit, it’s important to be diligent in examining which cards may be the best for you and your spending habits.
It would be unwise to apply for any credit card simply because you are pre-approved for it, or because you’ll receive a one-time bonus for getting the card immediately. Instead, it’s important to consider the following factors before applying for any credit card:
- How much will the card realistically cost you over its lifetime? You should know what fees are involved (including the fees for items you probably will never use), and when they’ll apply, so that you can try to avoid them.
- Does the card offer rewards, and if so, will they benefit you? For example, some credit cards offer 2-5% cash back at certain retailers; but if you don’t normally shop where the “discounts” are, then the card will not be very useful.
- Don’t be spontaneous about your credit acquisition. One of the factors likely contributing to your good credit history is the length of time you’ve managed things like credit cards. Each time you open a new credit account, the “boost” you get from your overall length of credit (across all accounts) drops a little. Although this drop in one portion of your credit score calculus is mitigated by an increase elsewhere, it’s important to think about the “staying power” of any credit card you choose. Thus, don’t jump at that store credit card simply because you’ll save 20% on your first purchase, instead a long-term consideration is important when it comes to credit.
